Trump(ed) but not defeated

Anything but inevitable, Trump is now president of the United States.

Donald J Trump.

The man who tried to brand steaks.

 

Does this mean every American is a racist now? Does this mean everyone in America is on-board with sexual assault? Does this mean every American is an idiot? Does this mean liberal ideology has been defeated? Does this mean the world will go to war? Does this mean the end?

No. Of course not.

Trump is and always has been a joke.

It’s just that this joke was supposedly better than all the other jokes running for President this time round. The joke got out of hand. The joke became sentient, and angry. The joke beat everyone to the post.

All except Bernie. Bernie might’ve snatched it. Might have. Trump dominated Clinton. Bernie polled well in places like Michigan, Wisconsin, but arguably may have done even worse in Florida. It’s impossible to say, although Sanders did have an extremely active ground and internet movement (which petered off after the young people he had energized had to choose between  Orange Satan and Hillary “Fill my Pockets” Clinton.)

Ultimately, it doesn’t matter. The American people have chosen.

It’s not the end of the world.

This is a good thing.

Trump will spend the next four years spouting his platitudes and enraging the Middle East and fiddling with fat, red buttons and eliciting sex from his office workers and touching his wife’s breasts and applying fake tan and killing terrorists and getting his toupee glued down and waterboarding terrorists and having lunch with Putin and making sure the devilish homosexuals are put back in their place and deporting aliens and dissolving the Republican party and most importantly, building a very fucking big wall to keep everyone fleeing their melting country inside and paying taxes to fund Trump’s campaign of hate.

Sorry. I got carried away.

This is a good thing.

After four years of this ridiculousness, maybe, maybe, America will vote for someone with integrity, progressive values and a mandate to fix this disunity not only in America, but across the West. Trump may be the political earthquake and shake-up that allows real change to happen in America.

Garry Wills says: “Trump will make America vilely great again.”

Maybe.

Just maybe.

Until then, sit tight. We’ll have to endure. It’s not the end.

The flames grow higher.

Trump is a white protest vote against a failed democratic system. As was Brexit in the UK. A disassociation of untouchable elites with the general populace. The snarling media turns the white-horde into haters of homosexuals, immigrants and those with different beliefs.

This is not the way it has to be. Continued political activism by Bernie’s young supporters, and Corbyn trying his hardest over here to disseminate his liberal message, and a battle in Europe against the Alt-Right, and everybody else just trying to keep their shit together. It’s going to be a long fight. It’s going to be a hard fight.

Real, progressive change can and will happen.

This is not the end.
