“I’m anxious.”
I know you are.
I walk behind you because
if I walked in front of you
you’d lose me and
you’d get angry.
There’s no point trying to negotiate.
You think about the children,
not you and I.
Maybe it’s because you’re
divorced, guilty, you keep me
out all the time.
After all these years…
“I try to please them.”
Well, you never will, will you?
Someday you’ll understand,
someday you’ll stop pushing me away.
Someday soon, before we both lose our minds.
So much going on here. I like that.

Sorry this isn’t a more informative or analytical comment but I feel like this poem can stand alone.

It does, not much we can do except guarantee we do better.
